StackBlitz, the company behind Bolt.new, is a San Francisco developer-tools company that lets people build web apps inside a browser tab, now mostly by describing them in chat. It started with a coding environment and makes most of its money from Bolt. Product managers, founders, marketers, and agencies are among its users.

What is StackBlitz?
StackBlitz tackles local setup in web development. Its WebContainers technology runs Node.js inside the browser tab instead of on remote servers, and both its main products run on it. Bolt.new adds a chat layer, turning a plain description into working code, hosting, and a database. Bolt launched on October 3, 2024, after the company had come close to shutting down.
StackBlitz products
- Bolt.new: AI builder that turns chat prompts into websites and apps, with Standard and Max agents.
- Bolt Cloud: hosting, databases, auth, analytics, and custom domains for Bolt projects.
- Bolt Forge: agent on open-weight models, in research preview until October 14, 2026.
- Bolt security review: reviews and patches apps before publishing, at no extra cost.
- StackBlitz browser IDE: collaborative in-browser coding, with a free Personal plan and paid Teams.
- Codeflow: one-click in-browser IDE for repos, issues, and pull requests.
- Web Publisher: lets non-technical contributors edit docs in the browser and open a pull request.
- Enterprise Server: self-hosted StackBlitz on one Kubernetes instance, with SAML2 SSO.
- WebContainer API: embeds a Node.js runtime in other web apps; commercial use needs a plan or license.
StackBlitz pricing
Bolt.new starts at $25 a month on Pro, billed monthly, and a free tier sits below it. Bolt charges in AI tokens: the free plan caps use at 300K tokens a day and 1M a month, while Pro starts at 10M a month. Larger projects burn tokens faster, since Bolt syncs the project's file system to the AI each message. Verify current prices at bolt.new/pricing (checked October 6, 2026).
Data, privacy, and safety
Yes. From October 7, 2026, Bolt trains models on content from individual accounts outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, and may license de-identified datasets, unless the user opts out in settings. Teams and Enterprise accounts are excluded, and opt-out is not retroactive.
Certifications: SOC 2 Type 2; GDPR; CCPA. ISO 27001 and HIPAA: Not publicly specified.
No confirmed breach was found for StackBlitz or Bolt.new.
Who's behind StackBlitz and how stable it is
StackBlitz is well funded and shipping actively, most recently announcing its first acquisition, Dokai, on September 29, 2026. Eric Simons is co-founder and CEO, and Albert Pai is co-founder. The company is independent and venture-backed, with about $135M raised in total, including a Series B of about $105M in January 2025 led by Emergence Capital and GV at a reported $700M valuation. No 2026 funding round was found.
StackBlitz strengths and limitations
Strengths
- G2 reviewers, including a QA engineer and an agency PM, describe going from idea to clickable prototype in hours.
- Imports Figma designs, pushes to GitHub, and bundles hosting, database, and auth through Bolt Cloud.
- SOC 2 Type 2 appears on its Trust profile, and Teams and Enterprise accounts are excluded from model training.
- Self-hosted Enterprise Server runs on a single Kubernetes instance with SAML2 SSO.
Limitations
- Trustpilot and G2 reviewers report tokens draining on error loops, with Bolt rewriting whole files to fix bugs.
- Teams building large production apps on a fixed budget should look elsewhere: G2 reviewers call Bolt a prototyping tool.
- Trustpilot's Bolt.new page shows 1.6/5 from 203 reviews (October 6, 2026), citing slow support and one account ban without file export.
- Individuals with client code or confidential IP should opt out, since training applies from October 7, 2026; Teams accounts are excluded.
StackBlitz alternatives
Lovable is StackBlitz's closest rival, with Replit, v0, and Base44 competing on different terms. StackBlitz's WebContainers technology runs the whole Node.js development environment inside the user's browser tab, while Lovable, Replit, v0, and Base44 center on their own cloud backends and hosting.
